Claire first came to yoga during University where she struggled with the daily anxieties of demanding study and work balance. She initially used it as a means to keep her body in shape but came to connect with the mindfulness of the practice through flowing Vinyasa sequences.
As her home practice grew and her career in social work progressed she began to incorporate some of the breath work and mindfulness practices into her client work. Realising that there was a strong connection in the effectiveness of yoga for trauma Claire decided to take a career path change and embarked on her 200hour Yoga Alliance (YA) registered Hatha and Vinyasa Yoga Teacher Training with Sri Shiva Shankar who had a particular emphasis on tranditional teachings, alignment and philosophy.
Upon her return to the UK Claire began teaching workshops and classes in London with an emphasis on breath, flow and using mindfulness to recuperate and restore. With her trauma centred client work in mind in 2015 she completed Trauma Sensitive Yoga training with Sarah Holmes De Castro of Fine Balance Yoga which she integrated into working with young women in care settings in a deprived area in London.
In 2016 Claire gave birth to a baby girl and relocated to Brighton. As her practice changed in pregnancy she wanted to understand the changing body and yoga so in January 2017 she completed her 85hour (YA) Pregnancy, Post-Natal and Mother and Baby Yoga with Sally Parkes Yoga.
Claire’s believes that yoga is for everybody and so offers classes that aim to be suitable for all by offering variations and props to make all people feel the benefits of the asana (pose). Claire encourages her students to move and flow as they feel their bodies need and dependent on where they are in their practice so that students can develop in their own yoga journey physically, emotionally and spiritually.
Claire’s Pregnancy Yoga class is suitable for you after your first scan throughout pregnancy and past your due date whether you’ve practiced yoga before or it’s the first step in your journey. Classes are extended to 75 minutes to offer a chance to take some much needed time to connect to other soon to be mothers, your bodies and your growing baby (or babies!). Whether you’re looking for breathing techniques to help with during birth, poses to encourage movement of baby, active labouring or have some aches and pains to tend to, this class will help you to become stronger, more flexible and walk away feeling connected and blessed out.
