Positivtea – tea rituals

By Uncategorized

Positivitea Yoga and tea are the perfect pairing. The two have connected people for centuries. Our first tea drinking experience often comes through proffered friendship and reassurance to soothe, to revive and to bond – in the same way, the practice of yoga reaches out to us. As we gently adopt the time-honoured yoga rituals of lighting candles, selecting music, burning oils, placing mats and supports, so we often proceed to the comfort of our tea drinking rituals. “Tea is liquid wisdom.” Our two partners in wellbeing are not only truly inspiring but also the main source of our wisdom….

Tips – February’s pose of month – Garudasana

By Uncategorized

Also known as Eagle pose, Garudasana is a complex balance and twist.  As with all the yoga asana, modifications can be made.  The full pose involves wrapping a right arm over left and left leg over right, then sinking the hips as you stretch the torso upwards.   Right side, followed by the left side. Powerful, and strong.  Garudasana strengthens and stretches ankles and calves, stretches thighs, hips, shoulders and upper back.  It improves concentration and balance.   The full pose creates a feeling of perfect centredness and strength, as the eagle circles and focusses on its prey, the eyes do not…

Tips – January’s pose of the month Utthita Hasta Padangustasana B

By Uncategorized

Getting into the pose1. First of all come into Utthita Hasta Padangustasana A, by bending the right knee and drawing it into the body, with the left hand on the left hip. 2. Then take the peace grip around the big toe (index and middle finger bind around the big toe, thumb pops on top), and slowly start to extend the leg out straight in front of you (it doesn’t matter how bent or straight the leg is, as long as the body is in an upright position). 3. When comfortably balanced, begin to open the right leg to the right-hand side. Notice how…

Why children’s yoga is important in schools

By Uncategorized

This month we have supported Children’s Mental Health Week. We have supported and donated to TeenYoga Foundation. We believe children’s health matters and would love to encourage parents to bring their teenagers to classes at Studio iO and see more spaces in Brighton offering children and teen yoga. Yoga for children is becoming more and more popular. We would love it to become mainstream on schools’ curriculum, as well as a lunchtime or after school club. Louise Cunnane, qualified yoga teacher, with Children Do Yoga explains how yoga can improve a child’s self-esteem, confidence and ability to channel their negative emotions…

Yoga for Sport

By Uncategorized

YOGA FOR SPORT It’s no secret that yoga is widely practiced by Sports star around the World. Andy Murray swears by it along with Djovick often appearing on court in almost the splits pose. Premier league footballers, basketball players and triathletes all understand the benefits of finding a balance between the adrenaline and sweat with the rest and recovery time.     I’m an avid gym goer, past crossfitter, triathlete and love my home HIIT sessions but without my yoga I would defiantly not have my stamina and ability to take on such challenges. Not only do we live in…

Repping the VGANG for ETHCS

By Uncategorized

Repping the VGANG for ETHCS I remember coming across Ethcs a couple of years ago with my boyfriend, back when they were called Ethics and Antics, in my local vegan health food shop in Exeter. Chris, who helps run the shop Seasons and the cafe Rabbit alongside his mum and grandma, was wearing one of the VGANG classic t-shirts that grabbed my attention. Side note: if you ever find yourself in Exeter I urge you to go and check out Seasons and their cafe Rabbit – which is just a couple of doors down! They’re such a lovely group of people…
